Managing stress and anxiety is an underrated aspect of exam prep, so it’s nice to see that the Yaeger CPA Review course takes this seriously and put together an excellent resource to help you do just that.  

In partnership with Dr. Marc Schoen, Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA’s Geffen School of Medicine, this bundle consists of 3 audio files and serves as a nice break from all of the accounting material you’ll be taking in. I suggest listening to these at the beginning of your exam prep journey to get the biggest benefit, but they’re also a great resource to return to later if you need a refresher.

Lectures

Yaeger CPA Review offers 120+ hours of video and audio lectures (PLUS + bundle only) that can be downloaded to any device, perfect for studying on the go. The video lectures are presented in a classroom-style view and the instructors excel at explaining challenging concepts through specific scenarios. The lectures synchronize with the course text, allowing note-taking and highlighting for later review.

Although informative, Yaeger’s lectures may come across as dry and slower-paced compared to other courses like Becker or UWorld/Roger. If less-than-thrilling video lectures are not a deal-breaker for you, Yaeger may still be a viable choice for a review course.

Textbooks

Yaeger’s course offers different textbook formats: Online & downloadable PDFs come with the base bundle. Printed textbooks come with the PLUS + bundle and are sold separately.

Personally, I think the online textbook is the best option. It syncs with lectures, allowing you to view them side-by-side with the text, take notes, and bookmark important areas. You can also save and print individual pages, which is convenient.

Flashcards

Flashcards are a great resource for CPA exam prep. With over 2,000 digital flashcards that can be accessed from any device, Yaeger’s course offers flexibility and convenience.

However, the downside is that they’re not organized and pop up randomly. Yaeger also doesn’t provide printed flashcards. If you prefer handheld flashcards, you’ll need to make your own.

Multiple Choice Questions

Folks who pass the CPA exam often say that access to plenty of practice material is crucial for mastery. Yaeger’s course has over 5,000 multiple-choice questions, which is smaller than some other courses.

Yaeger prides itself on being a true teaching course and doesn’t rely heavily on memorization and repetitive practice. Courses with bigger test banks usually just have multiple versions of the same question, so Yaeger’s question bank of unique questions is pretty comparable.

Yaeger’s AdaptaPASS software and user experience are on par with the competition. You can flag or mark questions for later review and create custom quizzes. After each practice quiz, you’ll get detailed statistics and explanations.

The only downside is that you can’t see if you got a question right or wrong until you complete the quiz. Instant feedback would be helpful for those still learning.

Bottom Line: If you’re considering Yaeger CPA Review in 2023 but are concerned about the lower number of multiple-choice questions, supplementing with Gleim’s Mega Bank is recommended.

Task-Based Simulations

Yaeger offers 150+ simulations and written communications in its CPA review bundles. The simulation bank is smaller, but it provides diverse content that closely resembles the actual CPA exam.

One downside is that Yaeger’s simulations don’t match the exam style as well as other courses. If you’re worried about the format or fewer simulations, consider Gleim’s Mega Bank to supplement Yaeger’s course.

Practice Exams

With Yaeger CPA Review, you get access to their Quiz Generator and Exam Simulator. The Quiz Generator allows you to choose between multiple choice questions or a combo of multiple choice and simulations. You can select the number of questions (5-100) and specific content groups to focus on. Use it to periodically test yourself and stay fresh.

The Exam Simulator generates a timed exam with 72-90 multiple choice questions and simulations pulled from the course. You can flag questions for review and use a calculator tool, just like the actual exam. It’s best used after finishing or substantially completing the course.

Yaeger could improve the Exam Simulator by breaking up the multiple choice questions into 30-question testlets for consistency with the actual testing conditions.
